Where can I practise the Taiwan written driving test, and is there an official simulator?
Short answer
Yes. 監理服務網 (mvdis.gov.tw) runs a free official mock exam online in 8 languages, and every question in the real written test is drawn from the free official bank, published in the same 8 languages. The exam itself can be taken with an audio service in your language, but only if you ask for it when you register.
There is an official simulator, it is free, and it is in your language. There is also no secret question list. Everything the written test can ask you is published by the government, which changes how you should study.
The official simulator
The government’s own mock exam is at mvdis.gov.tw/m3-simulator-drv, on 監理服務網, the motor vehicle office’s site. It is free, it runs in the browser, and it reproduces the screen and the format of the real written test. It comes in Chinese, English, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Burmese and Khmer.
This is the page people are looking for when they search for “mvdis exam” or “mvdis simulator”. The address ends in .gov.tw, so anything else asking you to pay for “the official simulator” is not it.
Where the questions come from
Every question in the written test is drawn from the official bank the Highway Bureau (公路局) publishes, free, as files anyone can download.
- Car, 1,090 multiple-choice questions, plus 10 hazard-perception video questions added in June 2026.
- Scooter, 804 questions, and on the same page a file of 152 road-sign questions and 126 hazard-perception video questions.
The car and scooter banks come in the same 8 languages as the simulator. If you know the bank, you know the exam, because there is nothing else it can ask.
The format you are practising for
| Car | Scooter | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 50, multiple choice | 50, multiple choice |
| Points | 2 each | 2 each |
| Time | 30 minutes | 30 minutes |
| Pass mark | 85 | 85 |
| True or false | gone since 30 June 2026 | gone since 30 January 2026 |
85 with 2 points a question means you can get seven wrong. The eighth is a fail.
The car paper also carries a few hazard-perception video questions, about five per exam according to official news coverage. Any practice material that still shows true or false questions, or a 40-question car paper, was written before 2026 and is practising you for an exam that no longer exists.
Scooter only, the hazard test comes first
Before you can book a scooter exam you have to pass the 危險感知測驗, the hazard perception test, on the Highway Bureau’s own platform at hpt.thb.gov.tw. It is 10 video clips and you need 8 right. After a pass you watch every explanation video and register the score, and only then does the booking form let you in. Fail and you watch the explanations and try again, as often as you need. The result stays valid for a year.
The 126 hazard clips in the official scooter bank are that same video set, so they are the practice for this step.
Taking the real exam in your language
This is the part people miss. The question bank exists in 8 languages, and at the test itself the station runs an audio service in 10, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka, English, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Burmese, Thai and Khmer. But it is only set up if you ask for it when you register. The Taipei City motor vehicle office says so for both the car and the scooter test.
Booking is online only and closes at 24:00 three days before the test, so registration is your one chance to ask. Say nothing and you sit the paper in Mandarin.
Practising with this app
Taiwan Driving Test & Guide is built on that same official bank, all of it, with the official answers. What it changes is how you work through it.
- Interactive. You answer and see straight away whether you were right, topic by topic, and your wrong answers and bookmarks are kept for review.
- Mock exams in the current format, 50 questions with 85 to pass, timed like the real one.
- Offline. The questions, the sign images and the hazard clips are inside the app, so once it is installed it works without data.
- 8 languages, switchable at any moment, even in the middle of an exam.
One honest limit if you study in a language other than English. The car and scooter questions appear in your language, but the road-sign and hazard-video questions are still in English, because the government publishes those two files in far fewer languages than the main banks.
The simulator is still worth a run or two before the day, because it shows you the real screen. Learn the bank in the app, rehearse the screen on the simulator. The rest of the process, booking, fees and exam day, is in the scooter guide and the car guide.
