Taiwan will exchange my car licence but not my motorcycle one. Why?

What happens if my foreign driving licence expires while I live in Taiwan?
If your home country licence is about to expire, exchange it in Taiwan before it does. After the exchange, your Taiwan licence stands on its own and the old one expiring changes nothing. Checked against the 公路局 rules and 道路交通安全規則 §52.

What are the "verification" and "translation" Taiwan asks for with my licence?
Taiwan wants your foreign licence verified, and translated if it is not in English. An English licence needs no translation at all. Both can be arranged in Taiwan, which most people do not realise.

Does my Taiwan driving licence expire when my ARC does?
No. A Taiwan driving licence runs six years from the day it was issued, by law. Your ARC is a document you have to show in order to renew it, not the date it dies on. What the law actually says, and what happens if you let it lapse.

My country has no reciprocity with Taiwan. What does the full exam actually involve?
If Taiwan will not exchange your licence you take the ordinary Taiwanese exams. Here is the whole route for car and for scooter, the learner permit, the three-month wait, every fee, and why the scooter is dramatically faster.

How does the Taiwan motorcycle riding test actually work?
The riding circuit is marked against ten official items, not five, and most mistakes on the sheet cost 32 points against a 70-point pass mark. Every item drawn out, what each one costs, and the official demonstration videos filmed at real test centres.
